Data Access Optimization

Typically when SAP BW is initially implemented, restricting queries for filtering purposes works well when the volume of the data processed is relatively small. More often than not, BW data grows exponentially as the Managers realize the importance of the analytical tool and insight the solution provides and develop more complex queries.

Performance degradation with increase volume of data is a common problem. There are specific strategies that can be effectively deployed to monitor and provide an early warning mechanism for performance degradation.

The Netweaver Eco-system provides another challenging area for BW query performance as it is now popular to propagate Queries to KM repository for Enterprise portals or through Web services. The Composite application Framework can potentially use BW queries in providing analytics for better measurement and understanding of Business processes and benchmarking performance. Query performance now depends on how these data access schema are architected.

Our service is as much a diagnostic survey as it is remedial. The objective is to identify which queries are degrading performance and which have the potential in the future to cause performance issues.

The following are the highlights which will be presented in a detailed report :

  1. Query navigation scheme analysis
  2. Detailed investigation of the computational model
  3. Study of impact of Info Provider design impact on BW Query execution
  4. Identify and set best query execution scheme that suits the target query
  5. Identify if or when aggregates are used by the query
  6. Identify Security implications on Query execution
  7. Impact of query design for portal iViews content with regard to performance when navigating through data sources
  8. Report-to-report Interface Vs Drag-and Relate and optimization of BW query performance
  9. Recommendations to enhancing BW data sources (InfoObjects, InfoCubes, ODS Objects, etc) for high performance data access environment
